What is Sustainable Leather?

Sustainable (a.k.a. recycled) leather is 100% genuine leather. The difference between our leather and regular leather is that we source scrap leather from other manufacturers and then condense the small pieces back into a large sheet of leather, ready for use in making your Happy Cows!

Once the process is complete, the leather is almost indistinguishable from 'first-run' leather, except that it is often smoother and sometimes slightly stiffer when it is brand new. The leather quickly softens and moulds to the shape of the wearer after just a few wears.

How awesome is that?

So you basically get an identical product except that:

  • It is cheaper to buy: The leather costs less to buy as we are essentially buying other manufacturers excess pieces. So you get beautiful bags like the Rucksack (see right) for $200 instead of $400.

  • It is sustainable: We don't contribute to the mass breeding of farm animals which has been found to play a major role in climate change. So you can be proud that in a small way you are helping our planet.

  • It is guilt-free: We do not contribute to the slaughter of animals for food and meat. So you can enjoy your Happy Cow even more, knowing you have not contributed to the unnecessary harm of a defenceless animal.
